Between school, friendships, social media and figuring out who you are. it’s easy to feel anxious, overwhelmed, or like you’re not measuring up. You may feel like you are the only one feeling this way, but I can guarantee you are not alone.

What Therapy Looks Like For Teens

Therapy with me isn’t a lecture, an interrogation, or a place where teens have to say the “right” thing. It’s a space where they can drop the act, talk honestly, and start making sense of what’s been so heavy.

We start by getting to know each other…what’s been working, what hasn’t, and what is making life harder right now. From there, sessions usually blend conversation, skill-building, and a lot of sarcasm. We might talk through what’s happening day-to-day, practice new ways to handle anxiety or communication, or unpack where those intense emotions are really coming from. We might also do all this while coloring, playing catch, or sitting on the floor, whatever is best for them.

My approach is collaborative and paced at your teen’s comfort level. There’s no pressure to dive into everything all at once (I don’t expect them to tell all their business to a complete stranger lol) but they will have support and practical tools that help them to feel more grounded, confident, and in control.

For Parents:

How You Can Support Your Teen

Watching your teen struggle can be heartbreaking. You want to help but everything you say seems to make things worse or they shut down completely. It’s normal to feel unsure of what to do, especially when you’ve already tried everything you can think of.

Therapy gives your teen a space that is completely theirs. A place where they can talk freely without worrying about disappointing anyone or saying the “wrong” thing. It’s not about keeping you out, it’s about helping them build trust, confidence, and emotional awareness in a safe environment.

You’re still a vital part of the therapy process. We will meet for a parent check-in every 4-6 appointments to share progress, any patterns I’ve noticed, and provide guidance on how to support your teen at home. My goal is to make therapy a team effort that helps both of you feel more connected and supported.

How to Know If It’s Time for Teen Therapy

It’s hard to know when your teen’s normal “ups and downs” might be something more. Most parents wait longer than they need to hoping things get better on their own or unsure whether therapy is really necessary.

You might notice your teen…

  • seems anxious, withdrawn, or irritable most of the time

  • avoids friends or activities they used to enjoy

  • has trouble eating, sleeping, of focusing

  • feels constantly overwhelmed or on edge

  • has emotional outbursts or sudden mood changes

  • expresses hopelessness and self-critical thoughts

  • engaging in more risk-taking behavior and their grades drop

Therapy can help your teen learn to manage emotions, handle stress, and build a stronger sense of self.

• Initial intake session (60 minutes): $175
• 30-minute parent check-in session (for teen clients): $100

I am a self-pay therapist and do not bill insurance directly.
However, many clients are able to use their out-of-network benefits to reduce their cost of therapy.

I partner with Thrizer, a service that handles reimbursement for you. You pay your session fee upfront, and Thrizer files and manages the claim. Many clients receive $40–$120 per session back, depending on their plan.
